Workshops and social media contests: PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil engages young chefs

Yesterday in Gallarate. Today in Arma di Taggia. Then, Bormio and Stresa.

Workshops are back into the hotel schools of Liguria, Piedmont and Lombardy to spread PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil wisdom to the future players of the accommodation and HORECA industries. Time also to select the 5 recipes that will feature, together with their authors, as the protagonists of a new social media campaign on Fb and Instagram.

For the third year in a row the Protection Consortium of the PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil launches this successful initiative, complete with a rich tutorial programme in the three Regions, which is carried out under the EU RDP 2014-2020 programme through the support of Regione Liguria and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development “ L’Europa investe nelle zone rurali”.

“Hotel schools train future chefs and restaurant staff, who will explore the world of PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil” – says Carlo Siffredi – President of the Protection Consortium.

Students and their teachers will take a three-hour training session and will be provided with an “educational kit” created to narrate the unique features of the PDO. Great focus on the tasting of the 3 sub areas of the PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil  (Riviera dei Fiori, Riviera del Ponente Savonese, Riviera di Levante), as well as on the study of similarities and differences. Further tastings with other two oils will help students to develop a first perception of how  olive oils may be different one from the other, this leading to different uses.

Workshops are only the first part of the project, which also includes the “ Young Chefs and PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil” contest.

The winning class will become the protagonist of the new social media campaigns   and students will be invited in Liguria for the final event during “Oliveti Aperti”.

“A comparison between gastronomic preparations, traditional or innovative – says Carlo Siffresi – which share the distinctive features of PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The five more voted recipes will be awarded on our web site and social media”. The deadline for recipes submission, complete with digital video, is April 17th.
